DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO SWIM?
No, this is not completely necessary. We have various packages in place, some of which are tailored for people who aren't strong swimmers or cannot swim at all. However, to take part in the experience day, we do ask on our waiver form that you can swim. You don't have to be the worlds best swimmer though. It's more that people who can swim, even a little way, tend not to panic if they fall in. If the worst happens and the boat does capsize (which we have never seen!), all you need to do is hang onto the boat. The boats are fitted with bouyancy devices or sealed air compartments meaning, it will float even upside down. Once you're clinging onto the boat you can easily kick your legs and the boat will glide to the side. The majority of the river is shallow enough to just stand up in.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
Rowing is an active sport so you should wear something light. Shorts/joggers/lycra bottoms are all comfortable to row in. You can wear anything on top, although do avoid anything loose or with big pockets. It is advisable to bring a water bottle although these can be purchased from the club.
WHAT'S THE MIN / MAX WEIGHT REQUIREMENT?
For land tank sessions, there is no min/max weight requirement. For water sessions, given that you need to be able to hold the oar and keep the pressure against the water, we would suggest the min weight should be no less than 38kg and the max should be no more than 120kg.
MIN AGE REQUIREMENT?
For any water activities, the min age is 13yrs providing they weigh 38kg or more and at least 5ft tall. Ideally, there shouldn't be any more than 2 people in the group at this height/weight.
CAN WE BRING SPECTATORS
A max of 3 spectators are allowed per group. Please check this when making bookings as we may not necessarily be ablt to host them at the club if the Juniors are using the club/facilities.
CAN I BRING CHILDREN?
Yes but children under the age of 10yrs must have an adult supervising them at all times.
DO I NEED TO SPEAK/UNDERSTAND ENGLISH
All participants must have a basic knowledge of the English language as all instructions will be given in English. For International group bookings, if you have an interpreter in place, this is something we can make provisions for. Do please mention this at point of order.
CAN I JUST TURN UP I.E. PAY AND PLAY?
All bookings need to be made in advance. If however, you have 8+ people in your group, then this may be possible.
ARE THERE ANY LOCKERS AT THE CLUB?
Yes, we have lockers in the changing room that you can use. Generally speaking, the clubhouse is a safe place although we cannot take any responsibility for any lost or stolen items.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
-
Water bottle
-
Spare clothes – Unless it rains, we are not expecting you to get wet so don’t worry!! However, given that it’s a watersport… and because Mother Nature can be quite temperamental, we always advise some dry clothing just in case.
-
Spare pair of socks - Other than keeping your feet nice and warm, they also come in handy if the shoes are too big! The thicker, the better.
-
Plenty of enthusiasm!
CAN I PURCHASE ANY SNACKS/DRINKS?
Do bring some water with you although we do have a vending machine in the clubroom that you can use. It only takes contactless payment.
WAIT, YOU HAVE A LICENCED BAR TOO?!
Yes we do - and we're very proud of it! However, this is only available for corporate sessions and/or private bookings where the venue has been hired. Drinks can be enjoyed after the outing in our club room and balcony!
